CEREC Dental Crowns: Renew Your Smile in One Visit

Framingham Family Dental Care uses dental crowns to rebuild decayed or damaged teeth. Unfortunately, traditional crowns require several dental appointments spanning several weeks. In today’s bustling and demanding times, no one has time to undergo costly, repetitive treatments. The good news is that now you can get dental crowns in a single visit. Thanks to CEREC technology, Drs. Arvi Duka and Adelina Duka can prepare, fabricate, and install crowns in one day!

Same-day dental crowns mean a busy executive, soon-to-be bride, or a mother with little time to herself can achieve their brand-new smile without the wait.

A trip down memory lane with traditional crowns

Traditional dental crowns involve numerous appointments spread over several weeks if not months. During the first appointment, your dentist prepares your teeth, takes manual impressions of your bite, and sends the images to an offsite lab to manufacture your crown.

While waiting for your crown, you’ll wear an ill-fitting temporary crown to protect your prepped tooth. After a couple of weeks, you return to the dentist to install your crown. If lucky, your crown may be fitted the same day; otherwise, you may need to come another day if your crown needs significant adjustments. While traditional crowns are effective, the procedure demands considerable time from your already busy schedule.

Move over traditional crowns! Welcome to the world of CEREC Same-day dental crowns

Although traditional dental crowns are still popular, most dentists are switching to the more convenient CEREC dental crowns. CEREC, in full Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, uses CAD/CAM technology to allow dentists to create high-quality restorations in a single visit.

After tooth preparation, our dentist takes digital impressions of your smile to create a 3D model of your teeth and surrounding structures. We then feed our CAD (computer-aided design) unit with the digital images to design your restoration. Once we finalize the crown design, we feed the image into an in-house milling unit to fabricate your crown. The milling machine carves your crown within 15 minutes from a solid block of ceramic material closely matching your tooth’s color.

After milling, we make minor adjustments to the restoration’s fit and aesthetics if necessary. We then polish and bond your crown to your tooth using dental adhesives. That’s it! You can now show your beautiful, damage-free smile to the world.

CEREC Crowns FAQs

What exactly is a CEREC same-day crown?

A CEREC same-day crown is a custom dental crown created and placed during a single visit using cutting-edge computer technology. This method allows Dr. Duka to design and fabricate a ceramic crown right in the office, eliminating the need for temporary crowns and multiple appointments. The result is a durable, natural-looking restoration that fits your tooth perfectly.

How does the process of getting a CEREC crown work?

First, Dr. Duka prepares your tooth by removing any decay or old filling material. Instead of traditional impressions, a digital scanner captures detailed images of your tooth and the surrounding area. These images are uploaded to a computer where Dr. Duka designs your crown digitally. Once the design is finalized, a milling machine carves the crown out of a solid ceramic block on-site. After adjustments and polishing, Dr. Duka bonds the finished crown to your tooth, all within one appointment.

What makes CEREC crowns advantageous compared to traditional crowns?

CEREC crowns provide the convenience of completing your crown restoration in a single visit, which saves you time and hassle. Because the crown is made from high-quality ceramic, it closely resembles your natural tooth in color and translucency. The digital design process ensures a precise fit, reducing the chance of future complications. Additionally, patients avoid the discomfort of temporary crowns and impression materials used in traditional methods.

Are CEREC crowns strong and durable?

Absolutely. These crowns are milled from solid ceramic blocks and are designed to withstand normal chewing and biting forces. With proper dental care, they can last many years. Dr. Duka ensures that your crown fits precisely and functions well, helping to prevent premature wear or damage. Their durability makes them an excellent long-term solution for restoring damaged teeth.

Will the CEREC crown procedure be uncomfortable?

Most patients find the treatment comfortable. Dr. Duka numbs the area thoroughly with local anesthesia before beginning, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. Because the crown is created and placed in one visit, you avoid the soreness or irritation often caused by wearing temporary crowns. After the appointment, any minor sensitivity typically resolves quickly.

How much time should I expect the CEREC crown procedure to take?

Depending on your case, the process usually requires about an hour and a half to two hours. This timeframe includes preparing the tooth, taking digital scans, designing the crown, milling the restoration, and placing it securely. Dr. Duka manages the process efficiently, focusing on quality care while minimizing your time in the dental chair.
