The pros of dental implants are well documented, along with their ability to resolve tooth loss issues permanently. However, it’s important to work with skilled implant dentists to get the most from this treatment. In Framingham, Massachusetts, that would be Drs. Arvi and Adelina Duka from Framingham Family Dental Care. After evaluating your condition and determining you’re a good candidate for implants, we’ll discuss the different types of dental implants available, plan your treatment and schedule your surgery.
Learning more about implants will help you make informed decisions about this treatment. Here are some different types of implants and how they can be used.
Most people choose endosteal implants, as they’re the most common dental implant type. They resemble small titanium screws and are surgically placed inside your jawbone to replace lost tooth roots. Single implants paired with dental crowns are used to replace individual missing teeth. If you’re missing several teeth in a row, we can use multiple implants to support a fixed bridge. Depending on your treatment plan, Dr. Duka can use four to eight implants to replace an entire arch of upper or lower missing teeth.
Once in place, the implants integrate with your bone tissue to become a permanent part of your jaw. For osseointegration to take place, you need sufficient jawbone density to support the implants. Otherwise, bone grafting may be needed before you can have this surgery.
Subperiosteal implants offer an alternative for people with insufficient bone density who don’t want a bone grafting procedure. These implants are situated on top of your jawbone, beneath the gums and come with a metal framework to support your new teeth. The procedure is less invasive, has a quicker recovery and doesn’t compromise the stability of your smile.
Full arch implants, commonly known as all-on-4 implant treatment, are endosteal implants that resolve major tooth loss issues. With this system, only four implants are needed to support an arch of missing teeth. Dr. Duka will place the implants in key locations in your jaw where they offer the best support. With fewer implants, you can expect a quicker recovery. Full arch implants are a practical, cost-effective treatment for people missing most or all of their teeth.

Mini dental implants mimic endosteal implants in appearance and functionality, but they come in a much smaller size. Despite being smaller, they can be used to support dental crowns, fixed bridges or implant dentures. The procedure is less invasive than traditional implant surgery, can be completed in less time and has a quicker recovery period. After evaluating your condition, Dr. Duka can let you know if mini implants are a viable option for you.
