Your goal of a picture-perfect smile can be achieved with Invisalign. Invisalign aligners produce beautiful results and make your journey less tedious. At Framingham Family Dental Care, Drs. Adelina and Arvi Duka are happy to provide Invisalign to our patients in Framingham, Massachusetts.
How effective is Invisalign in achieving your smile goals? That depends on your compliance with the guidelines for your treatment. Here are some ways you can improve the effectiveness of your procedure:
For optimal results, Invisalign aligners should be worn 22 hours a day, removing them mainly for meals and oral hygiene. You can set an alarm to remind you when to place the aligners back on your teeth. Wearing the aligners as instructed keeps you on track to complete your treatment within the timeframe given at your initial consultation.
At the onset of your treatment, Dr. Duka will give you a series of aligners. You’ll change to a new set of aligners every few weeks to keep your teeth moving into their new positions. Changing your aligners on time will help you achieve your desired results quicker.
Removable aligners are a major perk of Invisalign, as you can eat what you want and maintain good oral hygiene. You should remove the aligners to eat and drink anything but water. Removing the aligners for eating protects them from damage and avoids staining from food particles and debris on your teeth.
Always store your aligners in a safe place when not in use to avoid loss or breakage. The aligners aren’t indestructible. If you misplace or damage a set of aligners, Dr. Duka will need to replace them, which takes time. This can delay the completion of your treatment.
Brush the aligners daily with a soft bristle toothbrush and Invisalign cleaning solution. Rinse them with warm water (never hot!) before returning them to your mouth. Cleaning your aligners frees them from plaque and bacteria that can lead to bad breath or tooth decay.
Wearing the aligners 22 hours a day keeps plaque in close contact with your teeth, increasing your risk of cavities. Good brushing and flossing habits will minimize plaque buildup and keep decay at bay for the duration of your treatment. Dr. Duka can also schedule routine dental cleanings during your procedure to protect you from decay and gum disease.
Once you’ve achieved your smile goals, we’ll give you a retainer to wear at night to align your smile. Wearing your retainer as instructed ensures the long-term success of your treatment.
